Fire damages the front of a Saudia passenger jet beside a burning ground vehicle: real or AI?

As shared

“A new crazy video emerges from King Khalid Airport in Riyadh.”

MISLEADING

The fire was real. It happened at Jeddah airport in 2017, not in Riyadh this week.

How sure we areVery high

Based on 3 strong and 2 supporting pieces of evidence.

What we found

This short video shows the front of a Saudia passenger jet damaged by fire at an airport. On 8 October 2026 Houthi forces said they had targeted Riyadh's main airport, and the authorities confirmed deaths in attacks on airports in Riyadh and Abha. Old footage of burning planes was then shared as if it showed the new strike. This clip is not new. It was posted on X on 29 May 2017 by the aviation account @AviationWG, which said a ground-service vehicle caught fire beside a Saudia Airbus A320 and burned the front of the plane. That means it cannot show an attack in 2026. When a clip claims to show breaking news, check whether the same footage was online years earlier.

How it looksThis is a short, upright phone video posted in May 2017, years before the claimed strike. The account that posted it said a burning ground-service vehicle set the plane's nose alight.

Detector scores are often wrong, so they never decide a verdict here.

What we couldn’t establish

Whether the plane was badly damaged. Whether any real attack hit Riyadh airport in October 2026 is a separate question. If you know more, tell us.

Bottom line

Real footage of a 2017 fire at Jeddah airport, shared as a new strike on Riyadh.
