AI-MADE

Prices have gone up. But these receipts were never printed: they were made with AI.

How sure we areVery high

Based on 1 strong and 1 supporting pieces of evidence.

What we found

The picture shows two Walmart receipts for the same six groceries, one from 2002 totalling $15.44 and one from 2026 totalling $57.93. It was shared on Instagram on 13 October 2026, credited to a TikTok account that had posted it the same day, with a caption about how cheap milk used to be. Lead Stories found the receipts were made with AI. The address printed on them is in a Florida town that does not exist, Walmart has no store at that address, and some prices are far off: the 2026 receipt shows eggs at $9.48, when a dozen Walmart eggs cost $1.67 at the time. TikTok itself put an 'AI-generated media' label on the original post. Receipts and documents can be faked as easily as photos, so check whether the shop and address are real.
