The answer: made by AI
The clip shows a humanoid robot with white panels and black joints, dressed in a blue hospital gown, running through a street while police chase it and people jump out of the way. It was posted on X on 13 September 2026 with a caption saying the robot turned and ran on its own and that this was not staged. Similar clips appeared on TikTok, Facebook and YouTube. Lead Stories, a fact-checking organisation, looked at the whole group of videos on 22 September 2026 and found that all of them were made with AI and showed no real events. It found shop signs with nonsense names and upside-down letters, and athletic moves that are not possible. A Community Note on the X post also says videos of this kind are AI-generated. Lead Stories suggests searching the news for reports of the event before believing a clip like this.
The tells
Look at the shop signs in the background: one storefront is named 'DNNN' and other lettering does not spell real words. The robot sprints, dodges chairs and never wobbles, which is far beyond what real humanoid robots can do today. No news outlet or police force has reported any such incident.

How to check something like this yourself
- Find the first upload. Take a screenshot of a clear frame and run it through a reverse image search, or search a few words describing the clip with the name of the platform. Look for the earliest copy and read its caption.
- Pause it, again and again. AI video tends to go wrong between frames: objects change shape, people merge, writing swims.
- Check the length and the sound. Very short clips with stock-sounding audio, or no natural sound at all, deserve a closer look.
- Look for a fact-check. Search the main claim with the words “fact check”. Anything widely shared has usually been looked at.
